then add two thousand dollars to the estimate for fees (tax, license, dealer

The point is
do it as they do in real estate. Get pre-qualified at your
bank or credit union first!
This will tell you:
the true interest rate that your credit allows;
the term (time allowed to payback the loan);
the actual payment you can expect;
the loan parameters (how much if any cash down will be required.);
the year of vehicle you should be considering
